Hughes Says Serra Still An Option
By Mike MacLeod • Jan 2nd, 2008 • Category: NewsMatt Hughes, who lost to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 79 for the second time in three attempts suggests that he still may fight Matt Serra. As offered here on Bad Man Sports, Serra seems to be at the top of his list of potential opponents. Hughes offers the following on his official website, Matt-Hughes.com:
I’m going to take some time off and think about things. I’ve already talked to Dana and Lorenzo, and we’ll probably see what happens with Georges and Serra. And if Serra loses, I might go against him. Nothing is set in stone, just an idea right now.
Hughes offered no excuses for losing his bout to St-Pierre. He explains that his younger competitor did a better job at executing his game plan:
My match didn’t go like I thought it would at all. It seems I never got my gameplan started. Georges came in there and didn’t hesitate on anything, when he wanted to do something he did it and it seems when I wanted to do something, I thought about it and then I didn’t have the chance to do it. When you have a chance to do something, you just have to pull the trigger and do it right then and there.
Like I said after the fight, I came in in shape with a good gameplan, I just didn’t execute. I want to thank everybody for their support, for the emails and mostly for the prayers.
Finally, Hughes states that any injuries from the fight were not significant:
For those of you who have been asking, my arm will be fine and my black eye will heal.
