Compustrike has released their statistics for UFC 79 and the numbers demonstrate just how dominating Georges St-Pierre was in his performance against Matt Hughes.

St-Pierre threw 110 strikes and landed 77 (70%) of them while Hughes only managed to land 5 of 15 (33%).  The 26-year-old St-Pierre also initiated the only three takedowns of the fight and punished Hughes with 72 strikes landing from the ground.  Georges also made the only two submission attempts of the bout, one of them being an armbar which forced Hughes to submit.

If anyone had any questions about Chuck Liddell’s decision over Wanderlei Silva, Compustrike numbers indicate that The Iceman served The Axe Murdrer with the most punishment.  In addition to the only three takedowns of the night, Liddell landed 77 of 150 (48%) strikes while Silva landed 59 of 171 (35%).

Eddie Sanchez might have faced stiffer competition against a heavy bag as he landed  99 of 179 (55%) strikes on Soa Palelei while the Australian only managed 15 of 39 (38%) before suffering a third round TKO.

Lyoto Machida and Rameau Sokoudjou’s fight was even through the first round as Machida was landed 13 of his 21 strikes while Sokoudjou landed 6 of 14.  Machida had two submission attempts to Sokoudjou’s one while Rameau had the only two takedowns of the round.

The second round was all Machida as he landed 30 of 39 shots.  Sokoudjou only landed two strikes of his own before submitting to a triangle choke.
