Fedor’s Post-Yarennoka! Interview
By Mike MacLeod • Jan 7th, 2008 • Category: NewsThere are a few transcriptions of Fedor Emelianenko’s post-Yarennoka! press conference circulating. However, RussianMMA tells us that some of the translations aren’t 100% accurate as they were translated from Russian to Japanese and then from Japanese to English.
They provide their version of the questions and answers translated directly from the original Russian. For that, we thank them.
Question: You tried to shoot him [Hon Man Choi], but actually he shot you down. It that because Hon Man Choi’s physical power is so strong that he actually maybe exceeded you in terms of the physical strengths?
Fedor Emelianenko: Yes, indeed, he is very strong physically and he weight a lot. The second time I was able to throw him, but the ropes didn’t allowed to do it.
Question: Were you surprised of Hon Man Choi’s power (…)?
Fedor Emelianenko: No, I never underestimate my opponent and I am always preparing for a very strong and very serious fighter.
Question: You are kinda bruised. Do you think it was because of his punches were very strong?
Fedor Emelianenko: In fact he didn’t hit me with his punches. I believe that these bruises came because of the frictions with the canvas when doing the locks.
Question: Please tell us your opinion about the opponent.
Fedor Emelianenko: I realized immediately that I am quicker than he is [I wasn’t able to hear this one - RussianMMA]. However he is very strong physically, big and heavy. He feels the wrestling, and felt when he needs to push me to take my balance away and to put me down.
Question: This is your first fight in eight months. How do you feel about that?
Fedor Emelianenko: I am very glad to be back in here [in Japan]. I am very happy because of how I am welcomed, how I am treated and how the fans receive me here in Japan. There is no other country where the reaction would be the same as here. I can feel how much Japanese fans love me. I try to give them back my love, try to win the fights and to make them happy.
Question: Do you want the Yarennoka event to be continued into the future?
Fedor Emelianenko: The thing is that I have signed a contract with the M-1 Global. I know that M-1 Global wants to regularly organize events in Japan and M-1 Global wants to take the former Pride FC team so they could organize the events.
Question: Are there any detailed plans of M-1 Global shows in Japan in the future?
Fedor Emelianenko: As far as I know, the show(s?) are planned for the summer. Either for the spring or for the summer. I know about the summer for sure. I will be participating in this event - whenever it will be.
Question: Mr. Emelianenko, are you looking for any particular fight? In particular with Randy Couture in the future if you manage to work out the contract issues with the UFC?
Fedor Emelianenko: Yes, it will be a great honor for me to fight him. As far as I know, right now the negotiations are going on with Randy as well as with his manager and the only stoppage is because of Randy’s contract with the UFC. But this kind of fight is planned and will probably happen.
Question: How long will we have to wait until your next fight and how many fights will you participate in in 2008?
Fedor Emelianenko: The next bout is planned to happen in either the second half of the February or in the March. In the USA. I will fight three or four times. Thank you very much!
