“JZ” Calvancante to Fight Shinya Aoki in March

After being added and then removed from the New Year’s Eve Yarennoka! show, Gesias “JZ” Calvancante is going to throw down with Shinya Aoki in March.
This is according to American Top Team General Manager Richie Guerrero who confirmed the fight will take place in Japan for K-1. Guerrero made these comments during an appearance on TAGG Radio on Wednesday.

Guerrero also revealed that Yarennoka! match was canceled because Calvancante suffered a knee injury in training. Calvancante has since had surgery to repair the damage and is back in the gym, training.

Calvancante, from Brazil, holds a record of 14-1-1. The winner of the last two K-1 HERO’S Lightweight Grand Prix championship has wins over Caol Uno, Rani Yahya, and Vitor Ribeiro.

Aoki, the current Shooto 167-pound champion, holds a 12-2 record with wins over Akira Kikuchi, Clay French, and Joachim Hansen.
