UPDATE:
My friend Sam Caplan from FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that May 3 is the date that M-1 is targeting and an opponent for Fedor is far from finalized.

Sources within M-1 Global revealed to FiveOuncesOfPain.com (www.FiveOuncesOfPain.com) late Monday night that they are working to secure a May 3 date at the All-State Arena just outside of Chicago for their first-ever show.

Rumors about a potential show in May have been rampant on the Internet with several potential matches being reported. However, many of rumored matchups thus far appear to be untrue. In fact, the M-1 Global official indicated that aside from Fedor Emelianenko, the promotion currently doesn’t even have any other fighters under contract. While the promotion is in talks with several fighters, nothing has been finalized.

ORIGINAL POST:
MMA Fightline is reporting that M-1 is is looking to launch their debut event on April 11. The show would be be headlined by Fedor Emelianenko but a location has yet to be settled. The All State Arena in Chicago and the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ are being considered.

Currently Semmy Schilt is expected to get the fight against Fedor, although Pedro Rizzo, Ben Rothwell and Jeff Monson are also being considered.

Fedor has already faced Schilt who is 6′11″, 290 lbs. The two fought under the PRIDE banner in 2002 and Emelianenko won via decision.

Perhaps M-1’s marketing strategy is to continue to have Fedor beat giant men in hopes that their size makes up for their lack of skill. What’s next, a trained grizzly bear?
